Between October 2012 and January 2013 MANEO developed a new information and awareness campaign on knockout drops and sexual assaults in Berlin scenes. This campaign builds on MANEO’s earlier prevention work on knockout drops, an issue that has featured regularly in project work since the early 90s.
According to findings compiled by MANEO and Berlin’s police department, serious criminal offences, usually robbery or sexual offences, which involve the administration of “knockout drops” are known to occur in Berlin’s gay scenes. The substances are given to target victims without their knowledge, in order to drug them and make them helpless. Once defenceless, victims are then robbed, thefts and credit card misuse take place and sexual assaults, including in some cases rape, are committed.
